Angela Ford achieves this by inviting us into the life of Meghan Eden at the worst time, immediately after the death of her son in a terrible crash in a car driven by her inebriated husband. We have to get to know, like, admire and understand the main character in a book in order to enjoy travelling with them on their journey.
